Kompany will one day be Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola has no doubt about his successor

Vincent Kompany is clearly one of the symbols of Manchester City’s new era, having been there for the first league title (2011/12) this century, after 44 years of the Citizens dominating the Premier League. Now the former Belgian stopper is coach at Burnley, but Pep Guardiola has no doubt that he will one day take his place at the Etihad Stadium.
Kompany has been successful as a player and so far it looks like he will be very successful as a coach. This is clearly evidenced by looking at the Championship table, which his Burnley currently dominate quite clearly as they are first with 76 points ahead of second placed Sheffield United, who have scored 64 points so far.
Out of 41 games on the Burnley bench so far, Kompany has tasted only three defeats, one of which was suffered by his charges at Old Trafford during the 4th round of the EFL Cup.
Still only 36 years old, the Belgian has played 360 games in the Citizens jersey, which he first donned in the summer of 2008 when Hamburger SV let him leave for 8.5 million euros, during which he also scored 20 goals.
He then won 12 titles in England – 4x Premier League, 4x EFL Cup, 2x FA Cup and 2x Super Cup. So the fans at the Etihad Stadium would surely welcome their hero. Even more so when you know how well he is doing on the bench.
“Sooner or later he will be back. His destiny to become Manchester City coach is written in the stars. It will just happen, I don’t know when, but it will happen,” Goal published Guardiola’s words from the press conference.
Considering how well Kompany is doing with Burnley in the Championship this season, we can expect to see a mutual duel in the autumn, of course if the Belgian big man stays with his current employer.
However, Kompany is under contract at Turf Moor until 2025. Given his young age, his stay at Burnley can be counted on for at least another season. Where else to gain experience in the Premier League than with a team that is only expected to save.
However, if the English team, which has already celebrated two Premier League wins in its history, actually manages to get promoted and is also successful in the transfer market, we will probably witness something more than just fighting to stay in the league next season.
