KO of the year?! The 37-year-old UFC star grounded his opponent with a brutal knee
Edson Barboza is one of the legends of the UFC. If you follow the biggest organization in the world, you must know his name. And that he’s been losing his last few fights? Writing him off was a mistake. He proved that over the weekend against Billy Quarantillo.
Edson Barboza is one of the legends of the UFC. If you follow the biggest organization in the world, you must know his name. And that he’s been losing his last few fights? Writing him off was a mistake. He proved that over the weekend against Billy Quarantillo.
The UFC headed to Kansas this weekend. The un-numbered tournament may have escaped more attention, but a few fights could easily have taken place on the numbered tournament, even on the main card.
One of those duels catered to the legendary Edson Barboza. He returned to action after two losses, after which some combat sports fans had already written him off.
The Brazilian, however, took his time with his comeback. After his last fight, when he was no match for the talented Bryce Mitchell, he waited more than a year for his next fight.
In an attempt to get into the top fifteen featherweights, he was challenged by thirty-four-year-old Billy Quarantillo. But he didn’t come for the three years older Barboza and those who wrote the Brazilian off must doff their imaginary hats.
For Barboza quite possibly delivered one of the best knockouts of the year. Quarantilla actually caught one of the attacks beautifully and landed a perfectly timed knee right on the chin.
The American fighter went straight down afterwards and Barboza didn’t have to add any more punches. An absolutely clean knockout that earned a lot of admiration on social media.
Barboza showed that he definitely doesn’t belong in the old iron yet and that he can still give a lot of trouble to fighters who want to fight among the elite.
