Klopp on losing: I’m not sure we would have won against Manchester City even if they had played with ten
Jürgen Klopp did not hide his disappointment after the defeat against Manchester City. According to him, even a first-half sending off of the opposing midfielder Rodri would not have made much difference to the 4-1 final result.

Even in the absence of Erling Haaland, Manchester City managed to cope with Liverpool at home. Liverpool went ahead early with a Mohamed Salah goal, but that was all the Reds showed in the match.
Julián Álvarez provided a quick response with a finish into an almost empty net. After the break, the home side had the game completely in their control. When Ilkay Gündogan’s goal made it 3:1, the match was practically decided. Jack Grealish also added a goal in the end.
Liverpool are having a very difficult season. They are fighting to get into the top four in the league, but it doesn’t look very realistic that it will happen. Relegation with Real Madrid in the Champions League means the Reds are only playing one competition anymore.
Klopp’s reaction
Away coach Jürgen Klopp was in a defeatist mood at the post-match press conference. He also mentioned the situation where Rodri didn’t get a second yellow card, which would have meant a sending off: “He probably could have got it, but now he won’t get it. And I’m not sure we would have won against an opponent playing with ten, to be honest.”
Meanwhile, the German coach was not dissatisfied with the first half. On the contrary. He praised the performance and the result. Liverpool could have scored a second goal from a break. But instead of a second goal, the equaliser came and the second half saw a goal flurry from the Citizens.
“You have to defend City in the moments when you have the opportunity. If you are too deep, too passive, they can take advantage of it straight away. That’s true of the goals at 2:1 and 3:1. We weren’t in the game after that. Our defence was open, passive, too tight and far away from everything,” Klopp is clear.
According to the Liverpool coach, four Reds players gave a decent performance. He specifically mentioned Jordan Henderson, Fabin and Cody Gakpe. Goalkeeper Alisson is said to have played well.
