On Sunday, the men finished their tournament, including the Czech representative Ondřej Lieser. However, he did not fare well in Tokyo. Now it was the turn of the women. Since Wednesday morning CET, the best women golfers have been playing for medals.
However, Klara Spilkova has a slight advantage, unlike her colleague who finished last in Tokyo. She had already appeared at the Olympic confrontation five years ago in Rio, so she did not travel to Japan without experience. Back then, she finished 48th in the tournament under five rings.
“I am glad that I could prepare for the Olympics in peace at home, where I spent a fortnight after returning from the LPGA,” golf.cz quoted Klára Spilková as saying.
“Of course, I am looking forward to the Olympics. I’m curious about the course and I hope to get to the practice rounds as soon as possible, although there will be a men’s tournament there now. I even thought about going to Tokyo last year to experience the course, but unfortunately the covid times didn’t allow it. Hopefully Ondra Lieser, who played the tournament from Thursday, will also give me some information,” said the Czech national player before the tournament.
She made a bogey on the third hole of the first round, but soon took back the loss. In the end, she played the first nine on the Kasumigaseki Country Club course in par, but then managed to make two birdies. The result is a promising tie for seventh place with a current score of -2.
Leading the way is Sweden’s Madelene Sagström, who did not make a single hesitation in the first round. Jessica Korda of the USA, the tournament’s biggest favourite, is one shot off the lead.
