You would find few athletes in the world who are so dominant in one discipline. There is virtually no recipe for Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros. He sent world number one Novak Djokovic home on Tuesday night.

Nadal has been competing at the French Open since 2005. He has 13 trophies and only four defeats. How many matches? 114! Out of that many matches, he’s only lost four matches at Roland Garros. An absolutely incredible record.

In the quarter-finals against the world number one Novak Djokovic, he was not the favourite according to many. Especially with his health problems, according to his own words, he was not feeling 100%, plus he had to miss a significant part of the preparation.

But the concerns remained outside Court Philippe-Chatrier. “El toro” entered the match with incredible tenacity and took Djokovic’s serve in the first game. At 3:1, another break came and Nadal took the first set 6:2.

The second set seemed even brighter. Nadal broke his opponent twice right at the start and led 3: 0. But then the Serbian tennis player also woke up and turned it around to 4: 3. In the end, Djokovic won the set 6: 4 and leveled the score at 1: 1.

But the third set was exactly the same as the first. Rafa took away his rival’s serve in the first game, the second time at 3: 1 and brought the set to a victorious end – 6: 2.

In the fourth set, Djokovic seemed to level the match, leading 4:1 and 5:2. But Nadal showed his side of an incredible fighter, leveling at 5::5 and the set went to a tiebreak. There the Spaniard was already leading 6: 1 and had four match points, but finally he used the last one and advanced to the semifinals.

the 35-year-old proved that he is definitely not out of the woods yet, even though he warned that this could be his last match at Roland Garros. But then he serves the performance of a 20-year-old youngster and the talk of the end is not to be believed.

In the semi-finals he will face Alexander Zverev, who knocked out his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz. He doesn’t have the best record with the latter, of the last 5 matches Zverev has dominated three, Nadal two. Neither, however, has been at a Grand Slam, where Nadal is a level better tennis player.
