A desperate Khamzat Chimaev has finally come to
After signing with the UFC, Khamzat Chimaev managed a total of three fights in two months, plus he didn’t get too hot. At the time, he claimed he wanted to stay active and dominate divisions from Welterweight to Welterweight. However, his career was severely hampered by a coronavirus infection that sidelined him for over a year. At the time, he even considered ending his career.
Having made a triumphant return to the cage, through his own fault, he then put the brakes on his fledgling career when he failed to meet the weight limit at Welterweight by almost 4kg last September. He turned most of the fans and the management of the biggest MMA league in the world against him.
Thus, President Dana White has resolutely announced that his era in the Welterweight division is over and he will fight at a higher weight class. But no fight was forthcoming and Khamzat became desperate about his situation. So he challenged the top of the division from the Welterweight to the Welterweight division.
He also rubbed it in to Jiri Prochazka, for example, who is currently nursing a shoulder injury. Things got pretty heated between the two men and they exchanged some peppery messages on social media. But now it finally looks like the Swedish fighter with Chechen roots has finally arrived.
Confirmed to move up to middleweight where he will challenge Brazilian Paulo Costa
News is circulating the world media that Khamzat Chimaev is indeed moving up to middleweight. The information was brought to us by former title challenger who is close to UFC management, Chael Sonnen. “Khamzat will be fighting Paul Costa,” Sonnen said on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour.
“They even have a date. It’s going to be in Abu Dhabi, it’s supposed to be a big event and the fight will be three rounds,” he revealed the details of the fight. The said gala will be held on October 21 and the fight is said to be the main preliminary card.
The information was confirmed by the Brazilian himself on his social media. “We are fine-tuning the last details with the Chechen rat face,” Costa wrote on his Instagram.
After challenging champion Adesanya at the weekend, Chimaev will have to wait another six months and can forget about the title opportunity, at least for now.
The two fighters have teased each other in the past, and not just on social media, so expect one heck of a fight. Moreover, Sonnen revealed that the main event of the said tournament will be catered by Islam Makhachev, who will face the winner of the Oliveira vs. Dariush duel. Will we see the card of the year?
