Khabib Nurmagomedov reveals which legend he would like to meet one day
Khabib Nurmagomedov has met a lot of world celebrities thanks to his successful career as an MMA fighter. But there’s one particular person missing from his list.
From Russian President Vladimir Putin to soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, former undefeated UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has shaken hands with everyone throughout his dominant reign as UFC lightweight king.
Last week, Khabib was visiting the Full Send Podcast, where he made his wishes known. Aside from boxing legend Muhammad Ali, who passed away in 2016, the former champion said there is one person he would love to meet.
“I really want to meet Michael Jordan,” Khabib expressed his unfulfilled wish. “I play basketball, but not like Jordan. What I have in mind is Dagestani basketball. In it we wrestle, we run, we do all kinds of things, ” he continued.
Dagestan’s rendition of basketball is a mix of rugby and basketball, in which players pass and shoot but don’t dribble. It is a sport that “Eagle” and his sparring partners often enjoyed during their training days in Dagestan.
Nurmagomedov said he “fell in love” with six-time NBA champion Jordan, arguably the best basketball player of all time, thanks to a recent documentary, The Last Dance, that inspired him.
“I watched his documentary a month ago because I’m working on my documentary and it was very inspiring to watch,” Khabib revealed.
His friend encouraged him to watch the documentary. He didn’t know much about Jordan besides the fact that he is one of the best basketball players of all time. He was captivated by the American’s story.
Khabib jokingly struck a deal with podcast host Bob Menery, who said he would help Nurmagomedov on a special condition.
“How many sheep do I have to give you to get me that meeting,” he asked Menery. He replied that at least three, and the two mutually agreed. We shall see how this wager turns out in the end.
