On Friday evening, tennis fans can look forward to a duel between Karolina Pliskova and Sara Sorribes Tormo. The Czech tennis player is the paper favourite for the match and she could make it to the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup.
Karolina Pliskova is a twenty-nine-year-old tennis player originally from the Czech Republic. The native of Louny is currently ranked sixth in the WTA rankings. However, if she triumphs in Montreal, she would move up to fourth place.
The former world number one, who is still waiting for her first Grand Slam title, is in a good mood. She took on Donna Vekic in the Rogers Cup opener, before knocking out the talented American Amanda Anisimova.
Her opponent on Friday will be Sara Sorribes Tormo, a 24-year-old player from Spain. She currently occupies the 48th position on the WTA rankings, but will improve her career best in Monday’s edition.
She is doing quite well on the Canadian concrete, but the duel with Pliskova will be the first major obstacle. So far she has beaten Carol Zhao, Liudmila Samsonova and Kateryna Siniakova. None of these tennis players are among the world’s elite.
So what’s your bet? The paper favourite is Karolina Pliskova, who undoubtedly has more experience with such matches. On the hard surface, she has a huge advantage, which is her serve.
But it’s definitely not going to be an easy match. We can expect the Spaniard to attempt long exchanges, as we saw in Thursday’s contest with Siniakova. However, Pliskova should dominate the second encounter.
