Karolina Pliskova failed to play the role of favourite on Thursday morning and bids farewell to Roland Garros after the second round of the tournament. Jelena Ostapenko was her opponent.
Ostapenko is the 43rd player in the WTA rankings, while Pliskova is the world number four. The native of Louny will once again prolong her wait for the first Grand Slam title she has always dreamed of.
Ostapenko has one Grand Slam title, and that is from Roland Garros, where she won in 2017. In the same year, Pliskova went the furthest in France, reaching the semi-finals. In the last two years, she finished identically in the third round, where she did not reach this year because of Ostapenko.
Ostapenko won against Pliskova after one hour and ten minutes and she needed two sets to do it. She won the first set 6:4, the second 6:2.
Karolina Pliskova couldn’t get into the rhythm during the match, while the Latvian had her day and outplayed the Czech in all respects.
