Czech women’s tennis is well represented. If Petra Kvitova or Karolina Pliskova don’t do well, there’s Bára Krejcikova. If even she fails, Markéta Vondroušová, Marie Bouzkova or Katerina Siniakova will fly.
And if even those don’t work out, it’s Karolína Muchová. And then there is the upcoming generation of young super-talented tennis players like Linda Noskova (18), Linda (18) or Brenda (16) Fruhvirtová or Sara Bejlek (17).
The 43rd player on the WTA ranking first dealt with the eighth ranked Sakkari, then knocked out Podoroska and also the 27th Belgian Bega.
She had to face two Russians in the eighth round, first knocking out Avenesyanova and then Pavlyuchenkova. In her entire journey through Paris, Karolina has not lost a single set so far! And that was in the second round against Argentina’s Podoroska.
But now she has her biggest bite yet. In the semifinals, she’ll face the number two player in the world, Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian tennis player has successively knocked out Kostyuk, Shymanovich, Rakhimova, Stephens and most recently Svitolina.
Sabalenka is even a bit more confident than Muchova, she hasn’t lost a set at the French Open so far.
The two players have played together only once in their careers, at the 2019 China Open. Sabalenka won 7-5 and 7-6 on the hard surface then.
Sabalenka is a big bite, but Muchova may be in the form of her life. If she can maintain her euphoria, she could give the Belarusian a real beating and take at least one set from her.
