Karolina Muchova shows a great turnaround and will face the world number one in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open
Karolína Muchová faced a very tough opponent in the Australian Open eighth round. Elise Mertens stood in her way, but the Olomouc native handled the better-built Belgian well!
Karolína Muchová faced a very tough opponent in the Australian Open eighth round. Elise Mertens stood in her way, but the Olomouc native handled the better-built Belgian well!
Elise Mertens is ranked 16th in the WTA rankings, Karolína Muchová is eleven places behind her. The Belgian was in great form, so she was the clear favourite.
She clearly showed that from the beginning of the match. In the first set she won two breaks and led 4: 0. However, the native of Haná did not give up and won the first set in a tiebreak.
It is worth mentioning that Muchová has already turned around a worse situation. In the previous round, she was down 0:5 to Karolina Pliskova in the second set, but she turned it around and brought the match to a victorious end.
She did the same with Mertens. Muchová won the second set in her favour thanks to a break at the end. Once she regained her confidence after a bad start to the match, she was able to deliver some incredible shots.
Muchova is then in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the first time in her career. However, she now faces her toughest hurdle ever. She’ll face world number one Ashleyigh Barty.
The Australian has been going through the whole tournament so far and we can only hope that the native of Moravia will be able to beat her.
