The White Ballet needed to make amends in the league after losing to Barcelona before the national break, and they continue to dominate the domestic competition.
Before Sunday’s game, Real Madrid was already fifteen points behind at the top of the table with today’s game in sight.
However, it was not the home team’s players who entered the match more actively. After less than a quarter of an hour of play, Roque Mesa fired a shot that ended up on the left post.
After this chance, however, Real Madrid’s concert began. The first goal of the game was scored by Rodrygo, who was released to shoot by Marco Asensio.
It didn’t take long for the home side to take a two-goal lead when Vinícius Jr. beautifully found Karim Benzema, who headed the ball into the empty net.
Three minutes later, the same duo were in charge again. The Brazilian winger crossed the ball to Benzema. The latter did it with icy calmness and with a beautiful shot from outside the box he increased the score to 3:0.
The Ballon d’Or winner was able to complete his hat-trick in less than seven minutes when he managed to get the ball into the net after a centre from Rodrygo with his back to goal.
Carlo Ancelotti’s second half was as expected given the busy schedule. He started rotating relatively early and even got Eden Hazard into the game, who got his first minutes since January this year.
Despite the quieter pace, the White Ballet players managed to score twice. The first goal was still called off by VAR after the ball touched the hand of Vinicius. The second one, scored by Marco Asensio, was already valid.
The rest of the match was already in the home side’s hands and in injury time Eden Hazard took advantage of the hesitation of the visiting goalkeeper. He beautifully passed the ball to the foot of Lucas Vazquez, who took advantage of the offer and closed the match to 6: 0.
Real Madrid thus reduced Barcelona’s deficit to a still abysmal twelve points.
