Kane’s hat-trick was his 7th goal in 5 games! Still, he’s three shots short of the Guinean phantom. Who is Serhou Guirassy, who leads the Bundesliga scorers table?
In the 2023/24 Bundesliga season, one name shines among all the stars. And it’s not Harry Kane, although he too is showing exceptional adaptation to his new surroundings so far.
In the 2023/24 Bundesliga season, one name shines among all the stars. And it’s not Harry Kane, although he too is showing exceptional adaptation to his new surroundings so far. But the 27-year-old striker, who wears the jersey of VfB Stuttgart, is conquering the league so far. Who is the Guinean Serhou Guirassy, who dominates the scoring charts in Germany’s top competition?
Harry Kane is showing great promise after his transfer to the reigning Bundesliga champions from Bayern Munich. His three goals today in Bochum’s net marked his seventh league goal in just five games.
Still, after five rounds of Germany’s top competition, he is an incredible three goals behind the league’s new star, given his excellent numbers. Who is the phantom who dominates the scoring table with ten league goals in just five games?
The birth of a football star began in France
Born in the French city of Arles to Guinean parents, Serhou Guirassy was the youngest player to sign his first professional contract with Club Laval at just 17 years old. Guirassy’s rise in France was meteoric as he showed off his shooting potential and unselfish play week after week.
This was followed by a move to Lille, which resulted in a call-up to the France youth national team. Then when Auxerre acquired him on loan in 2016, eight league goals meant that the German Bundesliga came calling.
The Bundesliga beckons, as does the desire to represent his parents’ country
His journey took him to Cologne, where he scored his first Bundesliga goal at the age of 21 against Bayer Leverkusen. Despite his efforts and scoring the most goals in the team, Cologne was relegated to the second league. Guirassy thus returned to France, where he excelled at Amiens and Rennes.
It was at the latter club that he shone the most, with whom he even played in the millionaire Champions League. His great performances in France attracted the attention of another Bundesliga club Stuttgart, who took him on loan last season.
Twelve goals and one assist in 24 games for the German club secured the Guinean striker a permanent transfer. It is largely thanks to his performances that Stuttgart have stayed in the top German competition.
Despite his success in France’s youth categories, Guirassy chose to represent Guinea in 2022. Since then, he has earned seven national team starts and even managed to score a goal against Brazil or Egypt.
In the 2023/2024 season, Serhou Guirassy also surpasses Harry Kane’s outstanding start
The 2023/24 season started with an amazing achievement by Guirassy. Eight goals in four games with just eight shots on target made a new Bundesliga record. With two more goals in yesterday’s game against Darmstadt, he then consolidated his first position in the scorers’ table ahead of the onrushing Harry Kane.
His style, similar to Emile Heskey, includes power, speed and accurate finishing, which makes him a very dangerous player. Guirassy’s humility shines through when he acknowledges the efforts of the entire team during his shooting spree during interviews.
Stuttgart’s coach, Sebastian Hoeneß, praises him as a striker who converts virtually all of his chances, propelling the team to success in the form of their current second place finish in the Bundesliga.
Guirassy is a record-breaking sensation who is brightening up the league with his remarkable goalscoring prowess. Will he surpass the star Kane in the race for the competition’s top scorer?
