Winning the title. That was one of the reasons why Harry Kane left Tottenham last August after ten years and headed to Bayern. But it’s as if this elite goalscorer simply has bad luck nipping at his heels wherever he goes.
The 30-year-old England international hasn’t won a proper club trophy yet. In terms of winning a league title, he won’t be able to do it this year either. The Munich giant lost the title battle to Leverkusen.
However, they can still hope to make it big in the European Cup. Bayern can still fight for the famous Eared Cup, having reached the semi-finals of the Champions League over Arsenal. There they will face Real Madrid, who are the paper favourites.
At least Kane is breaking individual records. In the 31st round of the Bundesliga on Saturday, he managed to break his personal best. He scored two goals in the Bavarian side’s 2-1 win over Frankfurt. In the current competition year, he scored 42 goals in 42 matches.
His previous best came in the 2017/18 season, when he scored 41 goals as a Tottenham striker. Kane has also reached the 400-goal mark.
He scored 280 of them in a Spurs jersey, he scored 62 times for the national team, and now for the forty-second time in Bayern colours. Nine times he entered the scorers’ list during his stint at Millwall, five times for Leyton Orient and twice for Leicester.
Can Kane beat Lewandowski’s record?
Moreover, the London native is looking for one more impressive record. Kane has the chance to break Lewandowski’s record for most goals scored in a Bundesliga season.
The former Bayern star has scored 41 in 2020/21, with Kane currently on 35 goals. However, he only has three league fixtures left. To equal the above record, he needs to score six goals. He needs seven, of course, to beat that.
“It’s possible, but of course I have to add more. Next week I have to score a few goals. It’s close, it’s within my reach. Of course, it depends on the last few games. But it was nice to get a couple of goals against Frankfurt and help the team win, ” Kane said after the Frankfurt game, as quoted by BBC Sport.
