Kane received an apology from the Bayern coach after the loss to Leipzig: He must think we didn’t train for four weeks
Well, that didn’t work. Bayern announced the signing of a record signing on Saturday and a sensational story was set up when Harry Kane could win his first major trophy the day he left Tottenham. But that didn’t happen and coach Thomas Tuchel made no secret of his disappointment.
Well, that didn’t work. Bayern announced the signing of a record signing on Saturday and a sensational story was set up when Harry Kane could win his first major trophy the day he left Tottenham. But that didn’t happen and coach Thomas Tuchel made no secret of his disappointment.
The weekend saw the first rounds of the English, Spanish or French leagues. We have to wait a week for the German one to start, but on Saturday the German Super Cup match took place and there was plenty to watch.
Bayern Munich took on RB Leipzig. They went into the game as favourites, and with a new reinforcement on the bench. Harry Kane had only just been signed on Saturday, but managed to be available to celebrate his first career trophy.
But in the third minute, the story got a crack. Dani Olmo sent Leipzig into the lead. He managed to add a second goal before the end of the first half and in the second act, even with Kane on the pitch, he completed his hat-trick.
Bayern could not score. Kane was virtually unable to get involved in the game, although it was more the fault of his teammates. Overall, it was a very poor performance from the Bavarian giant and Leipzig deservedly won.
The English striker immediately became the butt of jokes across social media. His trophy dream has not yet become a reality. Coach Thomas Tuchel later apologised to the former Tottenham star for his performance and the defeat.
“I’m really sorry for Harry. Heprobably thinks we haven’t trained for four weeks,” the German coach was heard to say at the post-match press conference.
“Our performance against Leipzig had nothing to do with what we set out to do. It’s a very bitter evening, I’m sorry,” Tuchel added.
