Kamaru Usman is considering moving up to welterweight! What does his potential opponent Prochazka have to say about that?

Kamaru Usman, the Welterweight champion, admitted in a recent interview that he was thinking about moving up to the Welterweight division, which is two weight classes above. There he planned to face then champion Jan Blachowicz, but it may be that he will be one of the possible opponents of Jiri Prochazka, who will fight for the title in a few months.

Thirty-four-year-old Nigerian Kamaru Usman, the reigning welterweight champion, admitted in a recent interview that he was thinking about moving up to welterweight.

The latter is two weight classes up, but it was supposed to be when it was ruled by Poland’s Jan Blachowicz, who was defeated by Glover Teixeira in the fall.

That fighter will face Czech Jiri Prochazka in a couple of months, so if Usman decided to move now, it’s quite possible he would face the Czech fighter. What does procházka say about his possible move?

“Kamaru Usman? He would be a very big challenge. I don’t want to think too much about the fact that Kamaru Usman could be my opponent right now, but I don’t think he would be that fast in our division and I don’t think his power would be on the same level as the fighters in the semi-heavyweight division.

What weight does he rule at? He’s two weight classes below us, right? That would be a very big challenge and problem for him, but I don’t know what weight he’s at outside of fighting.

I don’t want to think about things like that because I have to prepare carefully for Glover and that’s what I’m going to do,” said Prochazka in an interview with John Hyon Ko.

However, why is Usman considering, or has he considered, moving up to welterweight and not middleweight? The reason is that champion Israel Adesanya is his friend and doesn’t want to fight him.
