Kamara with Rangers in Prague again! Is there any more trouble?
Friday’s draw for the Europa League group stages gave Sparta some really interesting opponents. It will face Lyon, Bröndby Copenhagen and Glasgow Rangers. Especially the duel with Rangers promises a really interesting spectacle.
Friday’s draw for the Europa League group stages gave Sparta some really interesting opponents. It will face Lyon, Bröndby Copenhagen and Glasgow Rangers. Especially the duel with Rangers promises a really interesting spectacle.
Glen Kamara, a Rangers player who few Czech fans can name, will return to Prague. This is due to an incident from the Europa League match against Slavia, after which Ondrej Kudel was accused of racism and punished by UEFA for 10 matches.
Czech fans are left with a strong aftertaste not only from that incident but also from how UEFA handled it. So it is clear that the whole Czech Republic will be rooting for Sparta in this game more than in other European matches.
Many people may immediately wonder whether such a match poses a security risk. Under normal circumstances it would, however Sparta have a closed stadium for the Rangers game so no incidents should occur during the match.
However, the situation on the streets and, of course, in the rematch at the Rangers stadium may be even more tense.
There is no doubt that the players themselves should be able to handle the match. I think it will be a very tough but fair game. However, the question is how the fans of both camps will cope with both games, as their hatred for the other club in particular is still there. Hopefully we will not see another European scandal.
