The Czech youngsters will face an important duel to decide who will qualify for the European Under-21 Championship. From the first match against Iceland, coach Suchopárek’s charges managed to bring back a favourable result of 2:1. Will they follow it up at home and confirm their qualification?

The youngsters didn’t start the match against Iceland very well, because they conceded a penalty in the first half. However, thanks to goals by Valenta and Sejk, they managed to turn the result around.

“We got a penalty goal after a stupid mistake. We are glad that we turned it around, because we didn’t manage to do that in the qualification before,” said captain Kaloč, who came on for the last nine minutes.

The Lions are already preparing for the rematch at home, having left Iceland immediately after the match and have been in South Bohemia since Saturday. The main difference from the first match will be the change of surface.

While in Iceland the game was played on artificial turf, in Budweis the players will play on natural grass. “We are all very happy to return to natural grass, ” said Žambůrek, who played the last match with the captain’s armband in the absence of Kaloče.

Both players are aware of the importance of the upcoming clash. “We want to concentrate mainly on ourselves, on our own game. We have to go into the game thinking that it’s a brand new game. We want to win,” says Žambůrek

“We definitely don’t want to just defend. It’s going to be a little bit different because they were missing one or two players who were cleared. But it’s going to be mostly about us, how we approach it, ” adds Kaloc.

Both youngsters also welcome the fact that they will play the game in České Budějovice. ” The fans have always come to support us, we only lost to England here, so we hope to build on that and celebrate again after the game ,” Kaloč said

The Czech U21 team will play a key match against Iceland on Tuesday 27 September at 6pm at the stadium in České Budějovice. Live coverage will be offered by the TV station CT sport. Can the Lions win?
