Kaik Brito fell in the fight for the UFC contract! He let the fight go to points, but the judges saw his opponent win a close decision
Last December, Kaik Brito took the title from David Kozma and fans were looking forward to see how he would shuffle the cards in Tipsport Gamechanger. The Brazilian withdrew from the tournament after some time, the reason being an offer from Contender, where he is fighting for a UFC contract. The fight is over for Brito and unfortunately not with the ending he envisioned.
We had to wait many months for Brito to return to the cage. Since the fight with Kozma, he had an injury that wasn’t healing very well, plus he was dealing with an offer from the UFC, specifically from his “academy” Dana White’s Contender Series.
The 26-year-old fighter knew long in advance the date of his fight, which undoubtedly ranks as one of the most important of his career so far. The bout took place on the night and his opponent was the Gangster from Wales, Oban Elliot.
After a fairly even first round, the fight was dominated by Brito who came close to finishing his opponent. He held on though and the third round showed who had the better physicality.
Elliot rebounded and Brito didn’t have much strength to resist. The Welshman got him to the ground and eventually the fight went to points. The fight was close to a draw, in fact one judge scored it that way. But two judges saw Elliot win by a point and the winner was clear.
Brito was visibly sad, after all with this moment he lost his chance to fight in the UFC, for which he also sacrificed money in an interesting project from the Oktagon. His opponent, on the other hand, received the contract.
The Brazilian will now address his future and the question is whether it will be in the Oktagon. He should still have a valid contract there, but the title is no longer his as it was taken away from him.
So if he does return, it will probably be under a different contract so he can no longer escape to the UFC, which is his goal. But there are more possibilities, for example such KSW could definitely be interested.
