Unfortunately, the first game didn’t go well. Slovácko was not enough for the home team Fenerbahce in Turkey and lost 0:3. The Turkish giant showed that it is simply on a different level. However, the captain of the Moravian club Michal Kadlec received an ovation from the fans after the match. They did not forget his years spent in their beloved team.
Slovácko got a big reward for the last years and especially for winning the domestic cup last season. They can fight for the Europa League group stage, but after the first match it doesn’t look so promising.
The Moravians lost 0:3 in Istanbul on Thursday, when home side Fenerbahce showed them the difference in quality between the two squads. Tens of thousands of spectators watched the victory of their beloved club.
Michal Kadlec, who worked at the club from 2013 to 2016 after leaving Leverkusen, knows the pitch, the atmosphere and the Fenerbahce fans very well. Before the match, there was a lot of talk about his past in Turkey.
Although Kadlec didn’t play the most for the famous club for various reasons, even 63 games were enough for him to win two trophies with Fenerbahce. Namely, the league title in the 2013/14 season and the Turkish Super Cup a year later.
It’s worth noting that the title Kadlec won with Fenerbahce was the last one the famous club managed to win so far. This is also why fans understandably remember everyone involved.
This is also why Kadlec received a beautiful gesture from the home fans after the loss, who chanted his name.
In a week’s time, however, Slovácko, along with Kadlec, will want to make it at least as difficult for the clear favourite to progress to the next stage of the Europa League. If the Moravians drop out, they can still fight for a group in the Conference League.
