Kadeřábek instead of Bořil also against the Danes? Definitely a real possibility, at least from the back he was much better
The Czech national team made it through to the quarter-finals of the Euros. Three changes by Jaroslav Šilhavy helped a lot. Antonín Barák, Petr Ševčík and Pavel Kadeřábek used their chances to good effect. Especially the third mentioned.
The Czech national team made it through to the quarter-finals of the Euros. Three changes by Jaroslav Šilhavy helped a lot. Antonín Barák, Petr Ševčík and Pavel Kadeřábek used their chances to good effect. Especially the third mentioned.
Jan Bořil received his second yellow card of the tournament in the match against England and it was clear that he would not play against the Netherlands. Possible alternatives Aleš Matějů and Pavel Kadeřábek have not got even a minute so far, so Kadeřábek went into the match with the Oranjes unplayed.
The Hoffenheim defender last played on 22 May, but the long break has not affected him. Apart from a chance from the very beginning, he didn’t let the so far excellent Denzel Dumfries do anything and at half-time the Czech fans often called him the best player on the pitch so far.
“I’ve watched Dumfries in previous games. Hats off to him, he’s a driver. Once in the first half he got around me there, that was a misstep, but otherwise I think I didn’t let him into anything and I did my job at the back,” he told CT Sport.
Kadeřábek is right-handed and has almost no experience with the left-back position. He didn’t let Dumfries into anything in the second half either and he deserves a lot of credit for the clean sheet.
The question is whether it is worth changing the line-up again after an excellent performance. While Kadeřábek stood up to one of the best right backs in the tournament, Bořil struggled and made a lot of mistakes especially towards the back.
“I told my coach at the beginning of the championship that he can put me anywhere and that I will try to do my best. Now, Honza Bořil got out of the lineup and there was room on the left. I tried tograb the chance by the armpits, I think I did it,” Kadeřábek added.
