Juventus’ much-criticised midfield is now brimming with talent! What changes are yet to come?
Juventus Turin is one of the best Italian clubs in history and today, but in recent years it has often been criticised for its lack of quality and creativity in the midfield. This has been exacerbated with the departure of the game’s main playmaker, Miralem Pjanic, to Barcelona in Spain.
Juventus Turin is one of the best Italian clubs in history and today, but in recent years it has often been criticised for its lack of quality and creativity in the midfield. This has been exacerbated with the departure of the game’s main playmaker, Miralem Pjanic, to Barcelona in Spain.
Then in January, Rodrigo Bentancur also left for Tottenham and Aaron Ramsey also left after his contract was terminated, yet the Old Lady has too many midfielders, but not all of them.
For example, Brazilian Arthur, who arrived in 2020 in exchange for Pjanic, failed to make it in Italy and is now available on the market. Spanish side Valencia were a big candidate to get him, but that option eventually fell through.
Just as the possibility of Adrien Rabiot being sold to Manchester United has probably already fallen. Nevertheless, according to available information, the Turin club will still try to sell both midfielders.
Then there is Manuel Locatelli, who is a key midfielder for Allegri, or Weston McKennie, who has been linked with a move away several times, but is staying for now. Then came Swiss midfielder Denis Zakaria from Borussia Mönchengladbach in January and, after the end of his contract, Paul Pogba from Manchester United in the summer.
But Juventus also have several talented youngsters in their squad. One of them is Fabio Miretti, who started to get chances at the end of last season and so far this season Massimiliano Allegri is also betting on him quite a lot. Nicolò Fagioli is also waiting for his chance, while Filippo Ranocchia has gone on loan to Monza.
Juventus paid over €20 million for Nicolo Rovella in 2021 and he could finally start making regular appearances this season. Mohamed Ihattaren, who was one of the biggest talents in the Netherlands before his arrival in Italy, will also return in January. He was on loan at Sampdoria and Ajax last season, but was injured most of the time.
Despite the large number of midfielders, Juventus are still in talks to bring in Leandro Paredes, who lost his place in the squad in Paris, following the arrivals of Renato Sanches, Vitinha and also new signing Fabián Ruiz.
