A project that has caused a huge negative uproar among fans, players, coaches and many experts. These are also the words that can be used to interpret the efforts of the 12 clubs that in the early days sought to create a new European football competition – the Super League.

These clubs were Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus.

After a swift reaction from UEFA at the time, which included a ban on clubs participating in the Champions League and all UEFA competitions, nine of the founding members withdrew from the Super League.

Only three remain – Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus. But it is the Italian giant that has also decided to withdraw from the Super League project. On Thursday, it announced it on the club’s website.

“Following these negotiations and in view of the existing discrepancies regarding the interpretation of the relevant contractual conditions applicable to the Super League project, Juventus confirms that it has initiated the withdrawal procedure,” the Italian club said at a press conference.

However, Juventus says its exit must be approved by the two remaining founders. When his departure becomes valid and effective.

At the beginning of the year, there was still talk of creating a differently structured Super League. The participants would include 60 to 80 clubs from all European countries, with several leagues to be played.
