34. the round of Italian Serie A offered us an interesting duel Juventus vs AC Milan. The battle of two teams from the front of the league did not offer a goal, as AC Milan’s number two Marco Sportiello showed in excellent light, who saved his team from scoring several times.
Both teams went into the match with similar mindsets. Let’s start with Juventus, which has been losing point after point and has only celebrated a win on three occasions out of the last ten matches. It loses often in the league and for that very reason it will not be up for the title this year either.
AC Milan have been putting in excellent performances, but a home defeat to AS Roma in the Europa League started a losing streak. This was followed by a draw with Sassuolo, a loss in the rematch with AS Roma and last but not least a defeat in the derby to Inter, who subsequently celebrated the title.
Even so, it was a battle of two teams from the top of the league, with AC Milan second and Juventus right behind, but five points behind. It was therefore only a game of positioning, as both teams were almost certain to secure the Champions League.
The match was more about tactics than pretty football full of great shooting opportunities. After all, in the first half we waited for a big chance until the end, when the home team could have had one.
Dusan Vlahovic fired, cleared the ball through the wall, but AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Sportiello intervened brilliantly. He was able to head the ball out for a corner kick. Thanks to his intervention, the first half was scoreless.
Shortly after returning to the pitch, Sportiello had to intervene again, but this time he dealt with both Filip Kostic’s shot and Danilo’s finish to keep the Rossoneri’s hopes of scoring alive.
AC Milan were also angry, Ruben Loftus-Cheek fired from distance after an hour of play, but his shot went just wide of the target. Sportiello couldn’t rest, and in the 73rd minute he again made a great save against Askadius Milik’s header.
And when Adrien Rabiot crossed for him in the 86th minute, the defender was in place in time. A minute later Milik shot wide and in the end both teams had to settle for a point after a 0:0 draw.
