- Manchester United strengthen their defence
- Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs De Ligt arrive from Bayern Munich
- Red Devils send €60m to Germany
Manchester United’s activity in the transfer market announced towards the end of the season that they would want to primarily focus on defence. The big club has made a big move for French prospect Leny Yore, who transferred from Lille for €62 million.
However, as has been the case of late from United, bad luck struck them again and Yoro was injured for an extended period of time. But the Red Devils’ sporting department has come up with an answer, and a double one at that.
Twenty five year old Matthijs De Ligt arrives at stopper for 45 million euros. The Dutchman rose mainly at Ajax, where he was a symbol of Amsterdam’s memorable campaign to the Champions League semi-finals. A move to Juventus followed, where he played alongside the famous Cristiano Ronaldo.
He will thus complement Martinez, Evans and Maguire in the Manchester Reds’ squad. Then Mazraoui arrives on the edge of defence to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaku, who has moved to West Ham London.
Mazraoui is also quite well known to coach Erik Ten Hag, having worked under him at Ajax Amsterdam. The coach is thus reassembling his Amsterdam with a bit of exaggeration, as United’s squad already includes goalkeeper Onana or Brazilian winger Antony.
Then Donny Van de Beek is going on loan to Girona. It will certainly be interesting to see once again whether bad luck will peel off the Red Devils’ heels and they will grab some success in the Premier League or Europa League after a long time.
They played their first fierce game against their city rivals in the Community Shield battle. United lost 2-1 on penalties.
