Václav Jurečka had a successful season in Slavia and speculations about his possible summer departure have started. German Augsburg was among the interested parties, but they chose Phillip Tietz, three years younger.

Václav Jurečka came to Eden a year ago after the end of his contract at Slovácko. The Sešiovans did not have to pay anything for him. In hindsight, it turned out to be a very good acquisition for Jindřich Trpišovský’s team.

Jurečka overcame the opponent’s defence twenty times last season and became the top scorer in the Fortuna Liga. Jakub Řezníček from Zbrojovka Brno was only one goal behind him.

The twenty-nine-year-old striker was in great form especially in the extra time. He scored an incredible twelve goals in five matches against the best teams in the Fortuna Liga, but even that was not enough for Slavia to win the championship.

It is no wonder that the talk about the interest of foreign teams began. A member of Jaroslav Šilhavy’s national team was also in the sights of Augsburg. However, the German team is unlikely to strengthen.

The 15th team of the last Bundesliga season chose Phillip Tietz. He helped Darmstadt to promotion to the German top flight last season with 12 goals and three assists. He has signed a contract with his new employer until the summer of 2027.

“I am absolutely delighted to be wearing the Augsburg jersey. The Bundesliga has always been my biggest goal and I will work hard to prove every week that I am at the highest level,” Tietze revealed to the club’s website after signing his contract.

“In Phillip Tietze we have not only acquired a physically robust striker who has scored a lot of goals for Darmstadt, but we have also signed a player who plays with passion and commitment. His style of play and strong mentality will fit perfectly into our young team,” added sporting director Stefan Reuter.

Other interested parties for the former Opava and Kolin player include Trabzonspor and New York City. The departure of the experienced striker would be an appreciable loss for Slavia.
