The Czech national football team defeated Poland 3-1 in the first match of the EURO 2024 qualification and secured a great ground under their feet. However, they need to confirm this today against Moldova.

The Czech national team has not missed a single European Championship since the split with Slovakia.

At EURO 1996 it was silver, EURO 2000 the Czechs did not advance out of the group, EURO 2004 brought a great ride of the Czech team, which ended with bronze. At the 2008 championship came again a group elimination, as well as EURO 2016.

At EURO 2012, the Czechs advanced to the quarterfinals, as well as EURO 2020, where they still had to go through the eighth round.

Now they are well on their way to playing EURO 2024 in Germany again. Poland is the only competitor in the group, after which Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges will face Moldova, Albania and the Faroe Islands.

On Monday, Soucek and co. will take on Moldova, the group’s outsider. It is ranked 174th in the FIFA rankings and only Liechtenstein, Gibraltar and San Marino are worse among European teams.

Debutant David Jurásek gave a great performance against Poland. In the third minute he scored a goal and earned the player of the match award. He should not be missing in the line-up against Moldova.

“Three points against Moldova is a clear goal, we have to do it. We have something to build on, we have to build on our performance against Poland. Everybody is aware of what is at stake. We will go into the game with a clean slate, we have a lot of experienced players in the team, so we will definitely be able to do it,” said Jurásek before Monday’s game.
