His engagement in Slavia is over. David Jurásek is officially a player of Benfica Lisbon and before his departure he gave an interview to the club’s website to say goodbye. What are his feelings after leaving Slavia and his goals at his new club?
The saga surrounding David Jurásek’s transfer lasted for several months. He joined Slavia in the winter of 2022 and has now completed his first full season in a Sšivany jersey. However, he will not add a second one, as his performances immediately attracted a large number of interested parties.
Jurásek also performed well in the senior national team jersey and everything was pointing towards him heading abroad in the summer.Slavia were well aware of his value and rejected the offers. They asked for a sum of around 15 million crowns, which Wolfsburg was unable to give.
In the end, however, they found a common path with Benfica. A year ago, the Lisbon club brought in Alexander Bach, who was a regular starter and made a good name for his former team. Jurásek will now follow him, everything is already official.
“So for the fact that I went to Prostejov broken, that it would never work out football-wise, and I was already slowly starting to look for a job, it turned out pretty well (laughs). I wouldn’t say it scares me, I’m more looking forward to what my football career will bring me.
Three years ago it was something, now it’s something again. We’ll see how it goes,” said the young back in an interview with the club’s website. He had to wait quite a long time for the transfer, after all he had offers already in the winter and then he was promised to return to the matter in the summer.
“It was all over the place that a transfer was imminent. Now it’s official, I think it’s a relief not only for me but for a lot of my family. I’ve been through a lot, the guys here could tell you that, I wasn’t completely at my best. I’m glad it worked out and I’m looking forward to it,” he added.
In Benfica he will meet Bach, whom he knows very well from Slavia. In addition, Petar Musa, who speaks Czech, is also at the club and can also help him in the beginning, which is not easy when it comes to first foreign engagements.
“I believe that the transition to Benfica will be a bit easier thanks to Alex Bah and Petar Musa, although I haven’t experienced Petar personally in Slavia, so I believe that they will help me a bit in the beginning. I’m looking forward to it a lot. I recently followed Benfica’s journey through the Champions League and I believe we can build on that,” Jurásek finished.
