Judgment? Don’t look for it in Rangers fans! They’re racially abusing Japanese Kyogo Furuhashi
Just remember! A few months ago, Rangers FC and their fans were some of the biggest fighters against racism in the world. At that time, they were knocked out in the Europa League by an “Eastern European rival” and Ondrej Kudel allegedly racially abused their Glen Kamara.
Just remember! A few months ago, Rangers FC and their fans were some of the biggest fighters against racism in the world. At that time, they were knocked out in the Europa League by an “Eastern European rival” and Ondrej Kudel allegedly racially abused their Glen Kamara. But a few months later the same fans racially abused Japanese footballer Kyogo Furuhashi.
The whole situation is even more ridiculous considering all the circumstances. Some Rangers fans really aren’t among the more intelligent, even judicial, beings in the world.
Their arch rivals from Glasgow Celtic gave them massive support in their fight against perceived racism immediately after being knocked out by Slavia Prague in the Old Firm derby. What did the gratitude come to?
Only a few months later, some Rangers fans were singing a racist chant about a skilful Celtic player who hails from Japan. According to the information available, it was not just individuals in the first place, but large groups.
So what is the result? “Western” double standards, lack of judgement and probably dishonesty.
Celtic, of course, have stood up for their player and are supported by The Hoops fans. Rangers are logically distancing themselves from everything. “Rangers condemns all forms of racism and discrimination.”
An investigation into the whole case is now underway in the British Isles, and one fan threw out a prickly question in a Twitter discussion. “I thought he was behind Kamara.”
The big test of the case comes on Sunday. Rangers host Celtic in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox Stadium. Like most Czech fans, I’ll be rooting for Kyogo Furuhashi to score and Celtic to win.
