José Mourinho is out at AS Roma! The Italian club has sacked the Portuguese

Star coach José Mourinho is without a contract. Italian team AS Roma has sacked him with immediate effect and announced it on their official website. The Portuguese had been at the club since May 2021 and led the Romans to victory in the Conference League.

In May 2021, José Mourinho became the head coach of AS Roma. In Italy, this Portuguese coach didn’t shine much with the team, but he thrived on the European stage.

The Romans won the Conference League in the 2021/2022 season and played in the Europa League final last year. Here, however, they fell short to Sevilla, losing on penalties.

This year, his coaching chair began to sway over the star manager. In the league, AS Roma did not perform well. After 20 rounds he is in ninth position with 29 points, in Coppa Italia they dropped out against Lazio. In the Europa League, they did qualify for the knockout stage, but only from second place after Slavia Prague.

The team’s board did not like the performance and the chair under Mourinho broke. The club announced on Tuesday morning that the Portuguese’s contract would end with immediate effect.

“On behalf of all of us at AS Roma, we would like to thank Jose for his passion and the efforts he has made since his arrival at the club,” the Roma management said.

“We will always have great memories of his time at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

So José Mourinho has had another typical engagement. He led the team to various successes, but over time things stopped going well and he lost his place.

Where will the Portuguese’s career go now?

It is not expected that Mourinho is planning to quit his coaching career and retire. He still has a lot to offer the football world.

Erik ten Hag, for example, has an uncertain place at Manchester United, where the Portuguese coach has already worked. There could also be interest in the strategist in Saudi Arabia, but Mourinho is unlikely to head there.

There has also been speculation that he could skip coaching on the club scene and move to the national team. He would be of great interest in Brazil.
