Jordan Henderson, the legend and former Liverpool captain, moved to Saudi Arabia before the season. The Al Ettifaq club bought him for £12 million. However, it now looks like he could leave the Arab country, just six months after completing his transfer.

Henderson back in the Premier League?

He accepted a lucrative offer in the summer, joining other players who preferred Saudi Arabia to football in Europe.

However, the Daily Mail comes with the information that Henderson isn’t completely happy at Al Ettifaq, he is reportedly eager to return to the Premier League and will be thinking about all possible offers.

Henderson’s club is coached by another Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. It was he and his assistant Ian Foster who played a key role in Henderson’s arrival at the club. However, Foster is no longer at the club, having nodded to an offer from Plymouth Argyle FC.

Henderson is not the only player who is unhappy with his current involvement in the Arabian Peninsula. His former teammate Roberto Firmino has also reportedly longed to leave.

The club is not doing well, Gerrard is under pressure

Why does the 33-year-old midfielder want to leave the club in the first place? His wages are fabulous, but that’s not all. Henderson is weighed down by the sporting side. Apparently he is not happy with the team’s performance and results.

Al Ettifaq are only 8th in the Saudi Pro League despite a big summer strengthening. Besides Henderson, the club also has Georginio Wijnaldum and Moussa Dembele.

The inconclusive results are putting Steven Gerrard and his charges under a lot of pressure from the Saudi owners. Indeed, Al Ettifaq have not won eight games in a row and have been waiting for three points since November.

The Saudi league is now on break. It will not return to action until mid-February. So it will be interesting to see which players will want to return to the European leagues.
