Jon Jones. A name that commands respect and that every combat sports fan should know. A name that belongs to arguably the best MMA fighter in history.

Of course, he’s had his share of life’s escapades and problems. However, as a fighter, he is simply phenomenal. After all, he’s never lost. In fact, his only loss was by disqualification.

But otherwise, the now 35-year-old fighter has won 26 fights and no one in the world has done what he has done. In 2011, he became the youngest ever champion in UFC history. When Shogun Rua couldn’t keep up with him, Jones was only 23 years old.

Furthermore, Jones has racked up records for wins, submissions and win streaks in his weight division. He has 13 successful welterweight title defenses.

He has defeated stars such as Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Glover Teixeira, Alexander Gustafsson, Daniel Cormier, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belford, Chael Sonnen, Anthony Smith, Ovince Saint Preux, Thiago Santos and Dominick Reyes.

After his last win in 2020 over Reyes, he handed over the welterweight belt and announced that he now intends to take on a new challenge and wants to conquer the heavyweight division. He has been preparing for this move for three long years and the first weekend of March will show if it was a good move.

He will be challenged at UFC 285 by Ciryl Gane, who is coming off an unsuccessful title fight with Francis Ngannou. Now he’ll test arguably the greatest fighter of all time.

That’s why it’s worth remembering what opponents Jones has been able to finish and how. The UFC has edited down the top five finishes by the American legend.

However, it is also worth noting how Jones played with Daniel Cormier. So Gane has a lot to look forward to. And so are the fans.
