Although Jiří Veselý is the highest ranked Czech tennis player on the ATP circuit, his form is in a downward trend. He has not experienced the sweet feeling of victory for almost two months.
After Tomas Berdych decided to retire, Jiri Vesely is the Czech number one. He is at 72nd position in the current edition of the ATP rankings, with his highest ranking being 35th in April 2015.
At that time, it was expected that the left-handed tennis player could break through to the very top. However, he failed to do so and has won only two titles in his career so far.
He has been a professional since 2009. The 27-year-old native of Příbram had a relatively good start to the 2021 season.
He reached the quarterfinals of the Murray River Open. Since then, however, he hasn’t had much success. At the Australian Open, he was eliminated in the second round by Carreno-Busta.
His last victory so far was on 23 February, when he defeated Sweden’s Ymer in Marseille.
Since then, a series of losses have come. He has successively lost to Gojowczyk, Djere and Martin. The loss also came in the Monte Carlo qualification, where he was defeated by Hanfrmann.
If Vesely continues his current performances, he could lose his position as the Czech number one in a short while. The 137th place is occupied by Machac, who surprised many tennis fans.
The one-time Davis Cup winner is now facing a one-week break. He will then play tournaments in Belgrade and Munich.
