Jiri Vesely will be the favourite for the tournament in Portugal
As one of the last rehearsals for the upcoming French Open, Jiri Vesely chose the tournament in Oeiras, Portugal. Will the Czech tennis player confirm his role as the number one seed and win the valuable title?
Jiri Vesely chose the tournament in Oeiras, Portugal, as one of the last rehearsals for the upcoming French Open. Will the Czech tennis player confirm his role as the number one seed and win the valuable title?
Recently, Jiri Vesely has not been doing well at all. The Czech number one has lost his last five matches. Nothing has changed even in Heilbronn, Germany, where he was seeded number one.
Maybe that’s why he won’t be in Lyon or Geneva in the coming week, where Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Roger Federer or Denis Shapovalov will be appearing.
The Pribram native will be looking to triumph in Oeiras, Portugal. The winner of the tournament will receive approximately 465 thousand crowns and will add 125 points to the ATP ranking.
Here, the 2013 Davis Cup winner will play the role of the number one seed. In the first round, he will be facing one of the successful qualifiers, which could be Alex Molčan from Slovakia.
Other tournament favourites include Steve Johnson, Federico Corio, Pedro Martinez and Yannick Hanfmann. The dark horse of the Oeiras event could be Damir Dzumhur.
Jiri Vesely needs to improve his mood before the peak of the clay court season. The French Open will start on May 31 and the 27-year-old Czech tennis player will be defending his second round from the previous year.
