Jiri Prochazka became the UFC champion, but he didn’t succeed only in the cage, but also with the viewers at the TV screens and monitors. His fight had record ratings, according to Telly TV statistics.
Telly offers 124 channels to viewers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It is the only one that holds a license to broadcast UFC tournaments, where several of our fighters fight. The UFC is broadcast by Premier Sport 1.
And now the record has fallen and it’s none other than Jiri Prochazka, the newly crowned UFC welterweight champion. The Moravian fighter defeated Glover Teixeira, forcing him to tap out with 28 seconds left in the fifth round to reverse the loss.
Prochazka’s fight had already garnered a lot of attention beforehand. Then when he actually won, the attention only multiplied. His success was discussed everywhere. And now we know that he succeeded not only in the cage, but also in the ratings stats.
On the day of Prochazek’s match, according to Telly’s statistics, no channel was more watched than the aforementioned Premier Sport 1, which broadcast it. On Sunday 12 June, 13 per cent of all viewers watched the match.
This meant that channels such as TV Nova, Czech Television and Prima, which Telly says are among the most watched in the long term, were left behind.
However, it was not only the viewership that was record-breaking. Telly also boasted a record number of sports packages sold, twice as many as a year ago, when Procházka beat Dominick Reyes.
“The viewership of Jiri Prochazka’s title fight was quite extraordinary, even though the live broadcast started at 4 o’clock in the morning. Theviewership share was 90 percent at the time of the match and Premier Sport was the most watched of all the more than 120 channels we offer on the day,” said Jan Schöppel, head of marketing at Telly.
