The ATP Next Gen Finals, the ATP Tournament of Champions for players under 21, starts on Tuesday 8 November. The first match will feature the only Czech representative, Jiri Lehecka. His opponent will be the local Francesco Passaro.
Jiří Lehečka is a 20-year-old tennis player originally from Mladá Boleslav. He is currently ranked 74th in the ATP rankings, making him the current Czech number one. In the calendar year 2022, he managed to score 630 points.
He was most successful on clay, where he won 24 duels. He also won his only title on this surface this year, in Liberec.
But he is no stranger to the hard surface either, as confirmed by his semi-final appearance in Rotterdam.
His first opponent at the ATP Next Gen Finals will be twenty-one-year-old Francesco Passaro. The Italian tennis player is currently in the second hundred of the ATP rankings, specifically at 119th position. This is also his career high.
He also recorded his best results on clay, where he had a record of 35 wins and only eighteen losses this year.
However, he hasn’t had much success in recent weeks as he hasn’t been able to win two consecutive matches in the main draw since September 6.
Tuesday will be the first ever match between these rivals. Although Passaro will have the home crowd advantage in Milan, the paper favorite to win is undoubtedly Lehecka, who has much more experience with big matches.
If the Czech national team wants to think about advancing out of the group, they should win. Next, he will face Arnaldi and Nakashima, which should be tougher opponents. You will be able to watch the match on Eurosport 2.
