Saturday night will be the final of the fifth edition of the Next Gen ATP Finals, featuring Jiri Lehecka and Brandon Nakashima. Even considering their last meeting, the American tennis player is the favourite to win.
Brandon Nakashima is a 21-year-old tennis player from the USA. He is currently ranked 49th in the ATP rankings. His career high is even 43rd position, where he was in October this year.
In the calendar year 2022, he managed to dominate the event in San Diego, defeating his compatriot Marcos Giron in the final after 6::4 and 6::4 sets.
Among other achievements we can include the Wimbledon eight-finals, in which he lost to the later finalist Nick Kyrgios after a great fight.
At the Next Gen ATP Finals so far Nakashima has not found an opponent. In the group stage, he took on Arnaldi, Lehecka and Passar in succession to advance to the semifinals from the top spot. In the latter, he faced Jack Draper and after a convincing performance was able to enjoy a 3:1 victory.
His opponent in the final will be Jiri Lehecka, a twenty-one-year-old native of Mladá Boleslav. He is currently ranked 74th in the ATP rankings, which makes him the Czech number one.
In the group, he defeated Passar and Arnaldi 3:0 in sets without much difficulty. His only loss was against Nakashima, which is why he advanced from the second position. In the semi-finals he surprisingly took on the great Dominic Stricker.
Brandon Nakashima will undoubtedly be the favourite for Saturday’s contest, having put in a dominant performance in their previous match.
But if Lehecka follows up his match with the Swiss, we could see four sets.
