Friday’s draw of the European Conference League decided that SK Slavia Prague will challenge Austrian LASK Linz in the eighth round. After the draw, Jindřich Trpišovský offered his reaction on how satisfied he is with the draw and whether he believes in progressing to the quarter-finals.
Slavie coach Jindřich Trpišovský wanted Italy’s AS Roma, who are managed by José Mourinho, to reach the semi-finals. The latter, however, will play Vitesse. Slavia will play LASK Linz of Austria. This team was Trpišovský’s second wish.
Trpišovský has good information about LASK Linz because Mads Emil Madsen, who is currently working for Slavia, used to play for them. It was therefore a second dream opportunity for Slavia and the whole team is happy with the draw.
LASK Linz plays in Austria, so the commute is not a problem for Slavia. Moreover, the coach of the Sešiovans has been following this team closely during the summer. He believes that he can prepare his charges well for the eight-finals. Also thanks to the help of Madsen.
Slavia will start the European Conference League Eight finals at home. The return leg will be played in Austria.
Trpišovský is aware that playing the second leg at home is a slight advantage. The match against Fenerbahce is a clear example. The fans of Slavia were an imaginary twelfth player for the Sešiovans.
Does it count for promotion? “We will see that only on the pitch, on the other hand, they won their group in the autumn and they certainly have their quality. We can’t underestimate anything and we will hope that we and AS Rome will advance and then we will have another chance,” Jindřich Trpišovský joked to the club’s website.
