Jaroslav Šilhavý, the head coach of the Czech national football team, will probably extend his contract. The FAČR Executive Committee has authorised the chairman Petr Fousek to offer Šilhavý a contract extension. It will be decided by the end of April whether he will stay with the national team.
On Tuesday, the FAČR executive committee held a meeting where it was agreed that the current coach of the Czech national team should be offered a new contract. Petr Fousek, the chairman, was instructed to meet with Jaroslav Šilhavy to discuss the contract extension.
The national football team failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar and will miss the final tournament. Šilhavy’s charges advanced from the qualifying group to the barrage, where they fell short to Sweden.
However, given the performance of the national team at EURO 2020, the committee decided that Šilhavý should stay with the national team. The FAČR is offering Šilhavý a contract for the next qualification cycle with an option for the final EURO 2024 tournament in Germany.
The Czech Republic left a good mark at last year’s European Championship. It advanced from the group and reached the quarter-finals, where it lost to Denmark. However, it managed to knock out the strong Dutch in the eighth round.
However, it is not yet known whether Šilhavy would lead the Czech national team during the four Nations League matches in June. The new contract will cover the qualifying cycle, which starts in the autumn.
The FAČR management is offering an extension of cooperation not only to Šilhava, but also to the entire current implementation team. The decision whether to extend will be made by the end of April.
The head coach will therefore most likely remain with the Czech national football team. On the other hand, Libor Sionko, the manager of the U21 team, is leaving. Sionko is leaving the junior national team at his own request, he has been there since 2017.
