Danish international Jannik Vestergaard has one foot in Leicester City, according to renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Foxes need a replacement for injured stopper Fofana, who is expected to be out until at least the end of this calendar year.

Wesley Fofana suffered a broken leg in a friendly against Villarreal. At first, the injury did not seem too serious, but a medical examination revealed the necessary surgery and recovery until at least the end of this calendar year.

The 20-year-old French defender formed an excellent stopper duo with Çağlar Söyünec. Since his transfer from French side Saint-Étienne, he has become an unwavering member of the starting line-up and has filled in brilliantly for outgoing captain Harry Maguire.

However, now Leicester are in big trouble as their defence fell apart just before the start of the Premier League and they don’t have an adequate replacement for Fofana in their squad. The width of the squad has been a long-standing problem for the Foxes, but now they have to act.

Brendan Rodgers’ team had several defenders to choose from, but arguably the most ideal option in terms of value for money is Southampton mainstay and Danish international stopper Jannik Vestergaard.

The 29-year-old defender should join the team this week and could theoretically make the opening game of the English Premier League in which Leicester play Wolves at home.
