In less than two weeks, the Czech Republic will play its first match at the Euro. Before that, however, Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges will play against the Italians and Albanians. How is Jakub Jankto looking forward to the matches?

The Czech Republic will face home nation Scotland, world runner-up Croatia and favourite England in the group stage.

“We are playing outdoors against Scotland and England, which puts us at an immediate disadvantage. Then we have the world vice-champions Croatia. But we mustn’t look at that, we will go into every game thinking we want to win it. We won’t play for draws or zandoura.”

Jankto himself has had a great season for Sampdoria Genoa, scoring six times in the league.

“In terms of statistics, it was my best season. I’m very happy with the workload and the way we played. I think it’s a lot of credit to coach Ranieri, who is unfortunately leaving. We had a very good squad, sixteen players could have been in the starting lineup, we were spinning.”

On Friday, Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges will play a friendly match against Italy, one of the favourites of the tournament.

“They have a very interesting team, experienced players intersecting with the new generation. Chiellini and Bonucci are in the defence, for me they are probably the best stopper duo. They have been playing together for about ten years. They have a really good team, which I think is at the level of England or Belgium, if not better.”

The final selection of Jaroslav Šilhavy also included the talent of Prague Sparta and the most valuable player of the Fortuna Liga, Adam Hložek.

“He is not training with us now because he has a minor health complication. It’s great when he scores four goals in a game. I’m glad that such a talent is growing up here. I hope he will continue. I believe he can become a great world-class striker like Džeko or Higuaín.”

On the other hand, Lukas Provod lost his place in the lineup due to injury. This is a shame not only for him, but for the whole team, because he had the season of his life.

“I’m sorry. These things happen. Hopefully, he will soon recover and maybe he will help us in the qualification for the World Cup in Qatar,” concluded Jankto.
