After Tomáš Vaclík left Sevilla, there is not a single Czech left in La Liga. But that could change soon, as Jakub Jankto is set to move to Madrid to play for Getafe.

jakub Jankto has played 6 seasons in Italy. He played his first year in Serie B for Ascoli, then two years for Udinese in Serie A. The last three seasons he played for Sampdoria Genoa.

Last season was one of the best for Jankto. He started 35 games, scored 6 goals and added 3 assists. Moreover, he was part of the squad at the Euros that reached the quarter-finals. He added one goal and two assists in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Now he could be moving to Spain. According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Jankto will swap Sampdoria’s blue jersey for Getafe’s blue jersey. He is expected to land in Madrid later today during Thursday.

Sampdoria are in dire need of money and so have agreed an immediate transfer with Getafe. The Spanish club will pay 6 million euros for the Czech international.

Getafe has been a bit of a rollercoaster in recent years. They finished fifth in the 2018-19 season and qualified for the Europa League. There, in the season before last, it reached the quarter-finals, where it fell out with Inter, finishing eighth in La Liga. Last year, however, the team from the suburbs of Madrid fought for salvation until the last round and finished in 15th place.

Getafe is a slightly different Spanish side. While most La Liga teams have technically brilliant players, Getafe is more of a competitive, combative team, and matches against them really hurt a lot. Jankt’s move to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez comes as a bit of a surprise, but regular duels with Real Madrid and Barcelona are not to be dismissed.
