The Russian league finally started after the postponed first spring round and Czech striker Jan Kuchta, who made his successful debut in the league in the jersey of Lokomotiv Moscow, where he transferred from Slavia Prague in January, was not missing.
There has been a lot of speculation around Jan Kuchta in recent days about whether his transfer to Lokomotiv Moscow was the right decision given the current Ukrainian-Russian war.
The Czech striker scored 5 goals in 5 preliminary matches and everything looked very good. But then came the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the first match against Krasnodar was postponed.
First, the German coach Markus Gisdol left the Moscow team and then Lokomotiv suffered a four-goal loss to second league Yenisey in the cup. Kuchta played 81 minutes in that game.
In the first spring league game, Lokomotiv had a derby with Khimki and the Czech striker was the central figure in it, scoring the winning goal to give Lokomotiv a 3:2 victory.
In the 80th minute Kuchta found a great pass behind the Khimki defence, curled around the goalkeeper and cleared the ball into the empty net. You can watch the goal at 1::46::27.
This leaves Lokomotiv Moscow in 5th place in the Russian Premier League table, 3 points behind the cup standings. Let’s see how the Czech national team will continue to fare and how much the war will affect the functioning of football in Russia.
