UFC Walker vs. Hill
On Sunday, we witnessed another great UFC tournament. The main card offered us quite a few attractive fights, with the biggest one coming last. In the main bout of the evening, two fighters from the welterweight division, where Jiri Prochazka also works, faced each other.
Jamahal Hill, who is known for his hard punches, once again showed his famous KO power. The top ten of the division, Brazilian Johnny Walker, felt it first hand.
Although Walker himself was eyeing a fight with Prochazka in a pre-fight podcast with world journalist Ariel Helwani, their paths would eventually part, at least for the immediate future. “Sweet Dreams”, as Hill calls himself, was able to deal with his opponent in the first round. After less than three minutes, he sent Walker into dreamland in the manner of his nickname.
Hill was the KO of the night
Although Walker tried to be very active from the first moment of the fight, threatening his favored opponent with his kicks, at one point he opened up enough on a lunge to catch a clean right hand on the sleeper. Walker’s lifeless body thus littered the octagon floor.
Hill challenged Walker at the press conference
Jamahal appeared at the press conference alongside his son, and even though it was his first major fight, he didn’t let unnecessary stress get the better of him. “I was trying to put the thought in my head that this is just another fight where I would like to show the world my fighting skills,” he described his feelings before the fight.
Although he was evasive in answering the question of his next potential opponent during the octagon interview immediately after his victory, he already presented his specific plans for the future during the press conference. “It seems to me that the welterweight division is kind of dead and I definitely want to stir the waters there,” he described his possible opponents.
“If I had to pick one name, I would pick Jiri Prochazka,” he expressed his desire to fight the Czech fighter. “If we met in the octagon, there would definitely be bombs flying through the air. The fight would sell itself thanks to our fighting style,” he assessed a possible clash between the two warriors.
Honestly, Hill could theoretically crack the top five of the welterweight division due to his performance. A number of factors will depend, of course. Walk will face a title fight with Glover Teixeira in May, and the outcome of that bout will certainly give a clue as to how the cards will be dealt in the future.
