Jack Wilshere has a new engagement. Can he revive his fading career?
In his youth he was predicted to have a great career. He was supposed to be a star and a key player for Arsenal and the England national team, but it has long been clear that he will not fulfil his potential due to frequent injuries. However, he is not planning to end his career yet, instead he will try to restart it again, this time in Denmark. One of his former coaches helped him to get a new job.

When he quit Arsenal in 2018, Wilshere tried to make a foothold at West Ham, but injuries plagued him there as well and he only hit 16 league games in two seasons and agreed with the management to terminate his contract.
He subsequently tried his hand at second-tier Bournemouth, but after six months was again without a club. Since then, he has coached at Como, an Italian Serie B side. However, his arrival at the club was spoiled by the fact that he is not a European Union player.
He also trained with Arsenal, but his return was denied by Mikel Arteta. Eventually, however, Wilshere found a new place. He signed a contract with Danish side Aarhus Gymnastikforening.
Aarhus is currently 7th in the Danish Superliga and is fighting for a place in the title group, 4 points behind them. Jack Wilshere will be with ‘The Whites’, as the team is nicknamed because of the colour of their jerseys, until at least the end of the season. The club will have the option to extend his contract by a year in the summer.
Former England national team manager Roy Hodgson, who is currently at Watford, also had some influence on Wilshere’s arrival in Denmark.
Hodgson knows Wilshere well and has put a lot of trust in him in the past, after all he took him to both the 2014 World Cup and EURO 2016. And it was he who put in a good word for the England midfielder with his former Crystal Palace colleague Dave Reddington, who is in an assistant role at Aarhus.
As Wilshere says he is in good shape and ready for a new challenge: “After a difficult period I want to resume my career and this is the perfect place for me. Physically I’m in a good place, I feel great at the moment,” he told the club website.
“I am very grateful for the offer from Aarhus and I will do whatever I can to live up to the club’s expectations. I’m looking forward to helping the team. I want to get some minutes on the pitch as soon as possible and then see how I can be useful.”
Aarhus will play the last game at Velje on Friday at 19:00. Whether we will see Wilshere, who incidentally will be wearing the jersey with the popular 10 on the back, on the pitch by then is not certain. However, it will undoubtedly be interesting to follow the former talent’s career in the coming months.
