Slavia won the last match of the group stage of the Conference Europa League and after a 1-1 draw with Union Berlin they are now in the spring phase of the competition. The only goal was scored by Ivan Schranz.
The opening of the match belonged to Union, but then Slavia went ahead and could have kicked a penalty. But the referee didn’t see the hand of one of the defending players.
In the 17th minute, Max Kruse shot from outside the box, his attempt was knocked down for a corner.
Slavia responded in the 33rd minute, Tomáš Holeš shot from a volley into the crossbar. The first half did not offer any more chances and the game was scoreless. The home team were happy with the result as they were awarded a penalty.
Slavia took the lead in the 50th minute. Ivan Schranz took advantage of the home team’s bad play and with a great shot he overcame the Union goalkeeper. Five minutes later, Peter Olayinka had his foot stamped on the ball, but sent it just inside the right post.
In the 64th minute the game was level. Kruse worked the ball after a corner kick and shot through everything in his path. At that moment the home team came alive and started to bite, but it was Holeš who shot unsuccessfully.
Olayinka had the winner on his feet in the 85th minute, but his shot was parried out for a corner by the goalkeeper. Slavia defended the very end. They survived a header from goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow and went on to draw 1-1.
