Poland is reacting strongly and radically to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It is due to face Russia in the World Cup barrier, but will not take part in the match. The associations of Sweden and the Czech Republic are now persuading Poland to do the same. What does Robert Lewandowski say?

Poland, together with the FAČR and the Swedish association, issued a joint statement on Thursday calling for the World Cup barrage matches not to be played on Russian territory. But now at least Poland has gone further.

The president of the Polish federation, Cezary Kulesza, has announced that the Polish national team is not going to play against Russia at all. Not even on neutral ground.

“Enough talk, it’s time to act. Due to the escalation of aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the Polish national team is not planning to play a playoff match against the Russian team. It’s the only right decision,” Kulesza expressed on Twitter.

He also added that he will negotiate with the football associations of Sweden and the Czech Republic so that they can jointly present their position to the international federation FIFA.

The move is also clearly supported by the captain and star of the Polish national team, Robert Lewandowski.

“I can’t imagine that the match with Russia should be played in a situation where the armed conflict in Ukraine continues. TheRussian footballers and fans are not responsible, but we cannot pretend that nothing is happening,” the Bayern star and one of the best footballers on the planet is clear.
