It’s over! David Krejci says goodbye to his career overseas. Will he continue in the league?
David Krejci wanted time to think about his future after his last season in the NHL. The Moravian hockey player himself was unclear whether he wanted to continue playing hockey at all. Now he has announced his end at least overseas.
David Krejci wanted time to think about his future after his last season in the NHL. The Czech hockey player himself was unclear whether he wanted to continue playing hockey at all. Now he has announced his end at least overseas.
The Czech native is one of the greatest figures in our hockey history. He spent the vast majority of his career in Boston. But now we know we won’t see him in a Bruins jersey again.
David Krejci has announced via the club’s website and social media that he will not continue in the NHL. In his last season he accumulated 60 points in 74 games (including playoffs).
Krejci is a legend in Bruins history. He ranks fifth in games played or assists. He ranks 13th among Boston’s scorers and 11th in game-winning goals.
As far as playoff stats are concerned, Krejci is very close to the top of the club’s history in scoring. In 160 starts, he has accumulated 128 points (43+85), matching Patrice Bergeron, who needed 170 games to score the same number of points, and Brad Marchand (146 games). Only Ray Bourque is better, having accumulated 161 points in 180 games.
In the NHL, including the playoffs, Krejci has played 1,192 games with 274 goals and 640 assists.
“After 15 complete seasons, I decided to leave the best league in the world. When I was drafted in 2004, I never imagined how incredible and passionate people I would be working with,” Krejci said, recalling that he reached the playoffs three times with Boston and celebrated winning the Stanley Cup in 2011.
In his thank you speech, he thanked the owners of the club and all of Boston. Not only to the organization, but also to the city and the fans. He didn’t forget his coaches, teammates and family.
But is this the end for him? Quite possibly not. Krejci has made no secret of the fact that he would like to play in the upcoming World Championship, which will take place in the Czech Republic. He also revealed this during the Golden Hockey Stick ceremony.
“The championship in Prague attracts me. On the other hand, other things prevail. Injuries, health. It’s all on the scale and it’s up and down. We’ll see. I think I’m 99% sure I won’t start the season anywhere. In the NHL, in the Czech Republic, in Europe, nowhere. If it takes me until Christmas to decide, it will take until Christmas,” CT Sport quotes him as saying.
