So let’s look at a comparison of the team’s performance when its biggest star is on the pitch and when he’s not.
Messi has transformed the team from the tail of the table to a winning machine since his arrival in Miami
When the living Argentine legend moved to Inter Miami, he faced an almost impossible task. The team had won just one of its last ten games and was floundering in the lower reaches of the Major League Soccer table overseas.
Lionel Messi is enjoying football again after years of hardship in the French capital. He has put a smile back on his face after his move overseas and is once again giving football fans around the world the joy of his incredible footballing skills.
He has become a huge asset to Inter Miami virtually overnight. The team, with the Argentine star in the lineup, showed an incredible eleven-game streak without a loss, during which they won the first title in club history in the form of a Leagues Cup victory.
During this streak of ten wins and one draw, he scored an incredible eleven goals to which he added five assists. The club’s fans celebrated their hero and began to believe in the impossible. And that was to make it to the Major League Soccer playoffs, which had been on hiatus for over a month during the summer.
But then the Argentine star got injured and the team went back a few months
After the return of the competition, the team recorded four wins in a row and got within sight of the relegation places. But every rise has its downfall. National team duties and an injury to Lionel Messi set the club back a few months.
In fact, in five games without their star, the team recorded just one win, two draws and lost the remaining two games. Moreover, Inter missed out on the chance to win the second title in the club’s history when they lost to the Houston Dynamo in the US Open Cup final without Messi.
The difference in the team’s performance with and without the star Messi is more than obvious and the club’s fans are already looking for the return of their idol. The Athletic has reported that Messi has already returned to training and should hopefully be available for the next match, which takes place on Thursday at the Chicago Fire.
