It’s embarrassing. It’s a disgrace. It is what it is. Shame Arteta couldn’t take Arsenal’s defeat to Newcastle

A second defeat in a row is something Arsenal are not used to anymore. Mikel Arteta also took Saturday’s game very hard when he didn’t accept Anthony Gordon’s goal for a regulation one. Unfortunately for the Gunners, however, no amount of fuss will change the fact that three points were added to the table by Newcastle.

Arsenal are still near the top of the Premier League this season. It is now dominated by Manchester City, but Tottenham could go top again if they win. Arsenal are currently in third place with a loss of three points, from which they can drop to fifth place on Sunday.

That’s how even this English top flight season is! It’s even harder to take the losses, as Saturday’s game between Arsenal and Newcastle proved. That was decided by the home team’s only goal, which was really a close call when the ball actually stayed a small part on the line, as confirmed by the beIN Sports experts in the studio.

It didn’t end there, though, as the Gunners didn’t like Joelinton’s tackle on Gabriel. However, that was ruled by the referees as not a foul.

And that was something for Arteta, who in a post-match interview with Sky Sports spared no criticism of the decision. We didn’t deserve to lose this game and we lost because of a clear decision. It’s embarrassing, it’s a disgrace, that’s what it is, a disgrace.

We’ve been dealing with it (with the PGMOL) for months. There’s too much at stake, we’ve put so many hours into this. So many messages that we’ve sent that we can’t go on like this. I’m sorry. I have to say it now, it’s unacceptable, the stakes are too high.”

Arsenal thus notched their third defeat this season, but their first in the Premier League. It must be added, however, that we could find several many more teams in the English top flight who might feel aggrieved by the referees’ decisions.

Arsenal now face a Champions League duel with Sevilla and then welcome Burnley at home. It is Newcastle who have two away trips before the national break. First to Dortmund and then to Bournemouth. But after the break, it’s a series of big-calibre games!
